Rembrandt van Rijn’s son,Titus,features in countless portraits across a variety of mediums,with this painting completed in 1668.

Titus was the fourth and only surviving child of Rembrandt’s marriage to Saskia van Uylenburgh but he would still only last until age 26,such was the short life expectancy during this time in European history.

He was also significant offspring in that he actually was an accomplished painter himself and would sometimes help his father’s studio,contributing to some ongoing paintings.
